I was educated at London University, where I took a BA and then a PhD in sixteenth century literature. After working as a university lecturer and running my own education consultancy, I decided to stop being comfortable and instead to become a full-time writer. I live in a barn (albeit restored) in the shires, to the north of London, which Paget may have passed on his way to Beaudesert. When not immersed deep in the sixteenth century, I enjoy resurfacing into the 21st century and spending time with my husband and horses, both of which, in their own way, provide me with a deeper insight into the world of the Tudors. Unlike the theological tumult of the 16th century, my own views on life are based on the fundamental observation that almost everything can be improved with red wine and sunshine.
I stumbled across William Paget during my investigation into the Tudor world and was amazed he was not better known. His life gives us an insight into how Tudor life really functioned, while being an example to all of us today, trying to maintain family and personal standards in an ever changing and unpredictable world. I would be fascinated to hear what you think of the books, how you have connected to the Tudor world through them and any suggestions you have to make. Please do get in touch through the "Contact Kathryn" page on this site.
I intend to use this website as my way of keeping in contact with my readers, present and future. My large retinue of humble retainers maintain it on my behalf, but as Mistress Kathryn of The House of Devon, all is overseen and approved directly by me. As well as this, I host an Instagram feed where I publicise items on this website. Finally, I will endeavour to send out a free newsletter to keep those who subscribe to it informed on various events and pieces of information which I hope will be of amusement to those who are interested in William Paget and his Tudor world.
